  4. Reverse It: Click the "Swap" icon to flip the units and calculate back.

Scientific Accuracy & Formulas

While our tool does the heavy lifting, understanding the math is essential for students and professionals. Here are the standard formulas we use:

  • Celsius to Fahrenheit:

    $$F = (C \times \frac{9}{5}) + 32$$
  • Fahrenheit to Celsius:

    $$C = (F - 32) \times \frac{5}{9}$$
  • Celsius to Kelvin:

    $$K = C + 273.15$$
  • Kelvin to Celsius:

    $$C = K - 273.15$$

Pro Tip: To quickly estimate Celsius to Fahrenheit in your head, double the Celsius number and add 30. It's not exact, but it's perfect for checking the weather while traveling!

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Why does the Kelvin scale not use "degrees"?

Unlike Celsius and Fahrenheit, Kelvin is an absolute scale based on thermodynamics. We refer to the units simply as "Kelvins" (K), not "degrees Kelvin."

2. At what temperature are Celsius and Fahrenheit equal?

The two scales intersect at exactly -40 degrees. So, \(-40^{\circ}C\) is the same as \(-40^{\circ}F\).

3. What is Absolute Zero?

Absolute zero (0 K) is the lowest possible temperature where all molecular motion stops. It is equivalent to \(-273.15^{\circ}C\) .
